Valentine Day Cards
Most of us will send a Valentine Day Card on February 14th to show our love for someone special. My earliest memory of sending a Valentine's card was when I was around 13 years old. I had a bit of a crush on a boy from school and decided that I would show how I felt by sending him a secret card. In the end, I chose a cyclops card (One I Love). After hours of writing out love poems, I sprayed the card with a vile perfume I used to wear called "In Love" by Norman Hartnell. I didn't sign the card as I wanted to remain anonymous, but this wasn't to be as he soon compared the scent on the card to one on my being. He knew that it was me and made sure that the whole school knew too. I wouldn't say that Cupid was on target, but I think that he shot me in the heart with his arrow and twisted it round a few times for good measure!
Valentine Verses
Finding the right card is the easy bit, it's what to write inside the card that stumps most of us. Choosing the right sentiments for our significant other is the difficult part. You need to ask yourself what type of poem or wording that you want. Should it be simple, sexy, funny, slushy, romantic or pass me a bucket 'cos I am about to vomit type of verse? There are several websites where you can get some ideas and some free poems that make it look like you spent hours putting pen to paper to make them swoon. These are a few of my favourites from each category:
Simple Verse:
There's a special place
within my heart
that only you can fill.
For you had my love
right from the start
and I know you always will.
Happy Valentine's Day
Naughty Verse:
I love you still.
I also love you when you wriggle around a bit!
or
Did you know that men are from Mars and women from Venus?
Let's kiss and remove all this space in-between us.
(There is an obvious alternative here!)
Funny Verse:
How do I measure
The love I have for you?
I thought, while idly watching
A sparrow sippin' dew
And as I pondered thoughtfully
I gave my head a rub
And then I thought
"Oh sod it I'm going to the pub!"
or
Through all the things that came to pass Our love has grown. . . but so has your ass!
Slushy verse:
I may not always tell you
What I'm feeling deep inside
The emotions and the feelings
That I sometimes tend to hide
But I'm really proud and pleased
To know that you are mine
And I hope that you still love me
My Darling Valentine
Romantic Verse:
I Don’t Need Valentine’s Day
I don’t need Valentine’s Day
to remember how much I love you,
or how much I want to give you
everything you need,
everything you want,
and delightful things
you haven’t even thought of,
because you give so much to me.
I don’t need Valentine’s Day
to remind me to strive always
to create for you
surpassing happiness and satisfaction,
just as you have done for me.
I don’t need Valentine’s Day,
but it gives me a reason
to open my heart to you,
to tell you loving things
I think in my head
but forget to say out loud.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Sweetheart;
You mean everything to me. By Joanna Fuchs
Tips on how to stay out of the doghouse!
Remember that if you do waken up on Valentine's Day this year and realise that you have forgotten to buy a card, panic not! Read on for my tips on how to get out of the doghouse quickly without even having to get out of bed!! All is not lost, every problem has a solution.
- While he/she is sleeping or distracted, arrange to send them an e-card straight to their E-mail account. You could always say that this was because you were thinking of the environment and decided that by not sending a paper card, you have saved part of a tree.
- Use your smartphone, and book a nice restaurant for that evening.
- You may find that all the restaurants are fully booked. Stay calm and order some flowers for delivery. Show off and have them sent to his/her work to prove what a kind and caring lover you are.
Job done, panic over.
Happy Valentine's Day.

Hi, thank goodness for the internet and phone! lol! I used to be useless at sending out Valentine cards, I could never think of what to put in it, I never wanted to be too romantic, the funny ones were always my type of thing!
Love your poems, especially the "I don' need valentine's day..." Was looking for refresher ideas to celebrate this day next month and glad to see your idea on the e-card. It's always exciting to see something different on email and this would do it for him.
I'm 14 and i needed something to write in a card. What could i put? Unfortunately, none of the poems on this site are really for me. Think about all age groups- even younger children writing a poem! xxx
Nice suggestions. As for forgetting, obviously not forgetting would be better, but if it is a last resort, I don't know many that would turn down a sensual morning massage for valentines day ... I'm sure they'd leave for work smiling.
Hope you have a great day, SHARED and voted.
